Eligibility - Department of International Trade

The type of person we are looking for.

Don’t worry if you haven’t worked in international business or government before, because your passion for international trade matters far more! We’re not looking for degrees or letters after your name, but would like to hear from you if you have these skills and qualities.

  • The capacity to use data to provide evidence-based suggestions relating to complex challenges.
  • A passion for learning. You’ll particularly be interested in developing skills in programme and project management.
  • The ability to ask questions in order to further your knowledge, and the willingness to take a structured approach to developing policy.

On a personal level, you’ll:

  • Enjoy working with others. This will include being willing to develop both your skills and those of your colleagues.
  • Be a natural leader with well-developed communication and influencing skills.
  • Enjoy delivering a high-quality service in a fast-paced environment – so you’ll be able to make effective decisions when under pressure.

On a practical level, you’ll:

  • Have at least 5 GCSEs including English Language and Maths (or level 2 equivalent) at grade C or above (or the new grade 4 and above).
  • Be eligible for SC clearance. This means that you will need to have evidence of having been present in the UK for 3 of the last 5 years. Checks will be made against:
    • Departmental or company records (personnel files, staff reports, sick leave reports and security records).
    • UK criminal records covering both spent and unspent criminal records.
    • Your credit and financial history with a credit reference agency.
    • Security Services records.

This exciting opportunity is open to everyone, including existing Civil Service employees and employees of accredited non-departmental public bodies.
